Santa Cruz

After leaving Altadena, we made our way to the Bay Area (having a minor adventure involving a flat tyre and a miraculously appearing tyre repair centre on the way), and our friends there took us out for the day to Santa Cruz.

1 Mystery Spot

The first stop was the Mystery Spot, where normal physical laws do not apply! Everything was at a weird angle and the guide appeared to make water run uphill. To be honest, it all made me a bit queasy and I was happy to leave.

2 The Sea

A relaxing break at the Lighthouse Field National Park was just the thing! We saw sea lions and sea otters, and lots of surfers.

3 Surfer Dude

In fact, surfing seemed to be the main purpose of the area, and was taken very seriously.

4 Lighthouse

The lighthouse that gives the park its name is pretty small – and also dedicated to surfing, since the attached building is now a surfing museum!

5 Surfing Museum

More information about surfing, in case the statue and the museum weren’t enough!

It was a lovely day, though, and great weather.
