Amsterdam Post 3 (Lego)

We were walking down a street in Amsterdam on our first day there, and one of the humans spotted a poster for an exhibition of art made out of Lego. So, we looked up where it was and set out to see it the following day. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.

The exhibition started with recreations of famous works of art. One of the first was a bit overwhelming when rendered in 3D:

We have a print of this next painting on the wall in our living room at home:

We saw the real statue of this one in Florence on one of our first holidays together:

This chap was quite colourful and friendly:

And I found this one rather thought-provoking:

Then we moved on to the original works, and everything got a bit disturbing:

But pretty cool at the same time:

Though also somewhat weird in places:

This cute fellow proved a relief after some of the previous sculptures:

While others were a bit too lifelike for my tastes:

Can you tell the animate from the inanimate? I’m not sure I can…

The last section was a bit more hands on. One of the humans started building a tower, but when the other one added some wheels I ended up with a spectacular space car to drive around in!

The beauty of Lego – so adaptable – vroom, vroom!

All in all, an excellent day out – and all the better for being unexpected.
