My primary human and I were originally thinking about taking ourselves away somewhere for the Bank Holiday weekend. But, when the tube strike was called off, and it looked to be less wet than anticipated, we decided to have a little stay-cation in London instead.
We got in touch with our friend, Google, and asked what there might be for us to do…
The Curious! exhibition round the back of King’s Cross turned out to be less than inspiring, though there were certainly some curious things lurking about:
But the best bit of that part of the day was the weird tunnel we discovered on our way back into the station – might it lead back in time?
The Urban Food Festival in Shoreditch proved less exciting than we’d hoped, as well, but we did find some awesome art along the way:
The best moment of the weekend – for me, at least – was the House of Burlesque Saturday Speakeasy. I was greeted by the rather lovely Burlesque Belles – Trixie and Gracie, in case you can’t read their bottom – in a suitable manner:
Yes, that is a smug smile you can see on my face here…
My human had a less pleasant experience when the very camp and rather annoying MC opened the show by launching himself into her lap and planting a smacker right on her lips, but still…
Sunday saw us venturing to Notting Hill for the Carnival, which was also rather disappointing, though the roller-bladers who started off the parade were good fun:
We found our stride with a trip to the Waterloo Imax to see The Man From UNCLE, which I will let my human review in more detail elsewhere.
Then, we ended our weekend adventure at the South Bank, with Briefs, a “burlesque, drag, comedy, cabaret, circus show”, which had some very impressive acrobatics, some slightly off-colour humour, several very attractive young men. We were seated in the splash zone. Enough said…
So, some truly excellent moments, some less than stellar moments, and a great deal of traipsing about in between them. We mostly enjoyed ourselves, and it was good to get out and about in the city for a change.
