The humans and I spent last week in Norway, which was so photogenic that I’m going to have to do multiple posts about it! We went as part of a Rail Discoveries tour group, which turned out to be excellent as it meant all travel and accommodation was sorted out for us, we had a few great excursions with the group, but also had lots of time to ourselves to explore on our own. Our tour manager, Kevin, was very friendly and helpful:
We started our tour in Oslo at the Thon Hotel Opera, where the owner himself was ready to welcome us:
Our first day began with a walking tour of the city, which included visiting the fort:
Everywhere we went in Norway, the public spaces were adorned with beautiful flower arrangements and the road leading up to the palace was no different:
This fellow commemorated Norway’s resistance efforts in the war:
City Hall was rather brutalist in style, but people get the opportunity to nominate a tune for the clock to play at noon every day, which is rather fun:
The parliament building was much more attractive:
During our free afternoon, we mad our way to the Cultural History museum, where there was a replica country village dating from the 1700s, which had a beautiful stave church:
Most of the other buildings seemed to have gardens growing on their roofs, perhaps for extra insulation in the winter:
We ended our day at Salt, a collection of food kiosks down on the pier, which offered a range of interesting food:
It was quite busy and very loud at Salt, so we took our purchases and enjoyed our dinner, sitting on the waterfront, looking across at the opera house:
The weather was lovely, and our first day in Norway was very enjoyable.
