The humans and I took a mid-week trip to Oxford a few days ago – primarily to see Come From Away on tour, as it has been over a year since it closed its run in London and the humans were feeling deprived.
The show was amazing, as ever, but we also took the opportunity for a trip down memory lane for my primary human, with a tour around the city.
This sign in the carpark offered an intriguing instruction:
The humans’ Airbnb was opposite this lovely pub, where they had a pleasant drink after the show the night before:
The main point of nostalgia for my primary human was a wander round her alma mater, St Catherine’s College – her first year room was the second one in on the top floor of the block at the top right of this photo:
She also remembered that her best friend Lindsay’s room was the top right corner of this block, now mysteriously obscured by a very keen tree!
Not every place we went was a source of dreamy recollection – since this rather bizarre building (a school for boys aged 4-13) definitely wasn’t there 25 years ago!
Something else the humans weren’t doing 25 years ago was geocaching – but on this trip it took us to some interesting places – this statue of Eleanor Roosevelt stands in the grounds of Mansfield College:
And the cache in question was just outside the Dean’s lodgings – and is apparently maintained by the college (the description says you can ask the porters for help finding it!):
We also found a bench dedicated to JRR Tolkein, deep in the University Park:
And this cheery individual offered a friendly wave on our way back to the car to head home:
A wonderful trip all round!
