Ah, there’s nothing quite like life on the canal! My human and I were lucky enough to be invited on a narrowboat holiday last week – just at a time when we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of London.

The serene passing by of the river banks is occasionally interrupted by a lock. This provides a good contrast to drifting down the canal by requiring some quite intense physical labour – starting with the need to open the paddles with a windlass in order to let the water in or out. Last time I…

You don’t get very far, very fast, travelling by narrowboat – but that’s really not the point. Sometimes it’s just good to slow everything down for a few days, and watching the river drift by at less than walking speed is incredibly relaxing.
